Velier was founded in 1947 by Casimiro Chaix, in the heart of Genoa, Italy. With his partner Arturo Lupi, they launched in 1953 an import business specializing in wines and spirits, distributing notably champagne, grappa, as well as tea and cocoa. In 1983, Gian Luca Gargano, then marketing director of Spirit SpA, the largest Italian import company, joined the capital. From 1985, Velier focused on importing high-end spirits, mainly destined for restaurants and wine bars. A pioneer in its field, Velier became in 1988 the first Italian company to import New World wines. From 1992, the brand distinguished itself by the careful selection of rare casks of Single Malts and Rums, showcasing unique expertise from 1995. In 2001, Velier offered for the first time an exclusive selection of Damoiseau rum.
