SAMAROLI - Jamaica - Trilogy Hampden (2001/2011/2012)
Born in Bologna, Italy, Silvano Samaroli, the visionary founder of the prestigious house, began his activity in 1968 by selecting and bottling some of the most refined and rare whiskies in the world. From the start, he distinguished himself as the only independent non-British bottler, bringing a touch of originality and excellence to this sector. In the 1990s, Samaroli expanded his expertise to rum: he sought out the most prestigious distilleries and transported the casks to Scotland, where the temperate climate favors optimal and slow aging of the spirits. In 2008, Antonio Bleve, who had worked alongside Mr. Samaroli for many years, sharing the same passion and philosophy, brilliantly took over the leadership of this emblematic house. Surrounded by a community of experts in exceptional whiskies and rums, Antonio actively continues the quest for rare casks, relying both on the historical relationships established by the house and on new enriching collaborations. Samaroli also innovates in the art of blending, skillfully marrying the richness of aged spirits with the power of younger ones, thus recreating the authentic soul of whisky. This approach includes the unique process of "re-casking" in new barrels, giving whiskies and rums a depth and complexity unmatched by classic Single Malts. The Samaroli range exclusively offers Single Malts and single cask rums selected for their exceptional character and authenticity. Each bottle bears a detailed label indicating the year of cask filling, the year of bottling, the exact number of bottles produced per cask, as well as an individual number, thus guaranteeing transparency and exclusivity to every enthusiast.
Hampden Estate is one of the oldest and most prestigious sugar plantations in Jamaica. Founded in 1753, the property originally belonged to Mr. Archibald Stirling of Scotland. In 1779, Mr. Stirling built the Hampden Great House, whose ground floor was used as a rum warehouse until the early 1900s. The Farquarson family operated this estate, producing sugar and rum of great renown until 2003, the year it was sold to the Jamaica Sugar Company. This estate benefits from an exceptional terroir, known for its lands among the most fertile in Jamaica, producing the largest quantity of sugar from crushed cane. Historically, Hampden rums were exclusively destined for export to Europe, notably England and Scotland, attesting to their international quality. In 2009, Everglades Farms Ltd., owned by the Hussey family, acquired the estate through a public asset divestment procedure from the Jamaica Sugar Company, owned by the Jamaican government. Since then, Everglades Farms has heavily invested in modernizing the rum distillery, creating many jobs in Trelawny and providing essential infrastructure to more than 17 local communities as well as several schools, thus strengthening its social commitment.
