NIKKA - Taketsuru Pure Malt 2020 - 43%
Nikka Whisky Distilling Company is an iconic distillery located in Japan, founded by the legendary Masataka Taketsuru, recognized as the true founding father of Japanese whisky. The son of a sake brewer, he studied chemistry at university before perfecting his craft at several prestigious distilleries in Scotland. In 1920, he returned to Japan with his Scottish wife, Rita, bringing with him the very essence of Scottish tradition. After contributing to the creation of the very first Japanese whisky at the pioneering company Suntory (Kotobukiya Limited), he founded his own distillery in Yoichi and created the parent company, Nikka. The company also owns specialized facilities for the production of Shochu (a distilled alcohol made from various ingredients such as rice, barley, and sweet potato) as well as units for the manufacture of cider brandy and apple wine. In 2001, the company was acquired by the Asahi Breweries group, further strengthening its international presence.
Nikka Taketsuru Pure Malt 2020 is an exceptional blend, composed of a skillfully balanced assembly of Sherry casks from Yoichi and new and refilled Sherry casks from Miyagikyo. This prestigious whisky was released to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Masataka Taketsuru's marriage, symbolizing the perfect union between Japanese tradition and Scottish craftsmanship. It was crowned "Japanese Whisky of the Year" in the 2020 Whisky Bible by Jim Murray, one of the world's leading whisky evaluation references.
