Michter's Fort Nelson Distillery is located in the historic Fort Nelson building in Louisville , USA . The four-story building was completed in 1890 and was part of the defensive Fort Nelson built by early Louisville settlers in the early 1780s. The Fort Nelson building was purchased in early 2012 with plans to renovate the building and be the first brand to reestablish a functioning distillery in downtown Louisville. Michter's uses only non-GMO American grains that are graded by USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) standards as US No. 1 ; the highest level of grain quality available in the United States. These grains (corn, rye, barley, etc.) are delivered to the production facility in Shively, Louisville, where they are then tested in Michter's lab and milled using the "Michter's Cage Mill" that was custom designed and built by Stedman.

Michter's Straight Rye US 1 is crafted from a carefully selected mashbill containing the highest quality American rye . Each batch is aged in unique, brand new charred American white oak barrels .
