The Shed Distillery is ideally located on the edge of a picturesque lake in Drumshanbo, right in the heart of Ireland. PJ and Denise Rigney, along with their passionate team of expert distillers, constantly push boundaries by experimenting with local wild grains, traditional Irish flora, and unique exotic plants. The Shed Distillery boasts an exceptional set of five copper stills: three dedicated to producing Irish whiskey, two specifically for Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin, as well as two copper column stills intended for the Irish vodka Sausage Tree Pure. These stills were specially designed and manufactured by Arnold Holstein in Germany, then carefully transported to Drumshanbo, ensuring unparalleled distillation quality.
The artisanal production process of Gunpowder Gin begins with a slow and controlled distillation in a copper still where 8 carefully selected botanicals are infused: flavorful juniper berries, meadowsweet, intense cardamom, fragrant coriander seeds, angelica root, refined iris root, delicate caraway seeds, and star anise. Then, 4 other noble plants are added in the vapor basket to enhance the gin: gunpowder green tea, Chinese lemon zest, vibrant oriental grapefruit, and kaffir lime, bringing perfect balance and unique aromatic complexity.
The emblematic creature adorning the label is a fascinating mythological figure, a legendary descendant of a hare and an American antelope, said to have been born in the heart of a violent storm according to ancient Irish traditions. This hand-gilded ceramic bottle, a true work of art, was specially created to beautifully celebrate the Chinese New Year under the sign of the dragon, symbolizing power, wisdom, and protection.
