"Why are there no whisky distilleries in Sweden?" asked one of the friends, a question left unanswered, hanging in the intrigued air. Sweden, although discreet in whisky tradition, is full of exceptional natural resources that make it possible to create an outstanding Swedish Single Malt whisky. Indeed, this country benefits from water of rare purity, naturally filtered since the last ice age, a central element for whisky quality. It is precisely this crystalline water, permanently accessible near a rock at the heart of the distillery, that contributes to the unique finesse and purity of the final product. Moreover, locally grown Swedish barley benefits from the long summer days to develop a singular sweetness, an essential characteristic in the aromatic signature of Mackmyra whiskies.
A major specificity lies in aging in new Swedish oak casks. The native oak grows slowly under the harsh northern climate, giving the whisky intense spicy notes and a structure more robust than American oak. This maturation offers a perfect balance between vibrant spice and rich sweetness reminiscent of caramelized sugar, a taste signature highly appreciated by connoisseurs. Today, this group of friends, alongside Angela d’Orazio, passionate master blender, continues to produce with energy and innovation a natural whisky, without additives and environmentally respectful, perpetuating a committed know-how since the beginnings in 1999.
Kreatör Gin, the distillery's first gin, is made exclusively from rigorously selected Swedish organic botanicals, then carefully distilled in a traditional still at the heart of Mackmyra Bruk. This unique aromatic composition includes: juniper, orange, lime, Bourbon vanilla, lemon, grapefruit, pink pepper, bitter orange, cinnamon, ginger, lingonberry, cardamom, coriander seeds, anise, raspberries, and elderflowers. The result: an organic gin with fresh and complex flavors, reflecting the authenticity and excellence of Swedish nature.
