Porto Hutcheson - Vintage Port 1963
Hutcheson is a prestigious Port brand produced by Sogevinus, a renowned wine group based in Vila Nova de Gaia, in the heart of the famous Portugal wine region. Founded in 1881 by British wine merchant Thomas Page Hutcheson and Alexander Davidson Taylor, a descendant of the prestigious Taylor’s Port family, the Hutcheson house benefits from an exceptional heritage in crafting outstanding Port wines. In 1920, Thomas Hutcheson retired and sold his share to Augustus G. Bouttwood. Following Alexander Taylor's death in 1925, Bouttwood sold the house in 1927 to the Barros family, thus ensuring the continuity of tradition and quality.
Vintage Ports like this 1963 vintage are aged for up to 3 years in large, old wooden casks before undergoing meticulous bottle aging that enhances their aromas and complexity. These rare wines are bottled without fining or filtration, which results in a natural deposit upon opening and serving, a sign of authenticity and rich taste. The 1963 vintage is recognized as an exceptionally remarkable year for Port, thanks to ideal climatic conditions. Unlike much of France and other European countries, the growing season in Portugal was favorable with a cold winter followed by a very hot summer that promoted optimal phenolic ripeness of the grapes. September brought refreshing rains, while cool nights helped preserve essential acidity and powerful aromas, giving this Port unmatched elegance and structure.
Grape varieties: Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional - two emblematic varieties from the Douro, renowned for their ability to produce rich, complex Ports with great longevity.
