Quinta do Portal - Vintage 2016
Quinta do Portal is a prestigious winery located in the heart of the famous Douro region in Portugal. Renowned for its exceptional wines, this family-owned and independent estate specializes in producing Douro wines, authentic Port wines, Moscatel of remarkable quality, as well as extra virgin olive oil. Founded in the early 1990s on Quinta dos Muros, a historic century-old property belonging to the Mansilha family, this estate continues a winemaking tradition passed down through four generations. Committed to a responsible and ecological approach, the vineyards of Quinta do Portal are cultivated according to strict principles of sustainable agriculture, thus ensuring the preservation of biodiversity and soil health.
In May 2022, with a desire for innovation and environmental respect, the estate installed photovoltaic panels to produce about 50% of its electricity needs, thereby strengthening its commitment to renewable energy. Furthermore, during the harvest, the CO2 generated is cleverly recovered and reused during fermentation to inert the lagares and tanks, minimizing the ecological footprint of the winemaking process. A perfect example of sustainable and modern production serving tradition.
The Vintage 2016 from Quinta do Portal is a harmonious blend highlighting the region's emblematic grape varieties: Touriga Nacional (40%), Tinta Roriz (30%), and Touriga Franca (30%). Traditional fermentation is carried out in granite lagares as well as closed tanks, combining authenticity and oenological mastery. The fermentation process is stopped by adding a carefully selected grape spirit, giving the wine a perfect sweetness with 116 g/L of residual sugar. Aging for one year in oak barrels ensures the wine develops aromatic complexity, richness in tannins, and exceptional balance before bottling in the second year, guaranteeing a product ready for consumption but capable of aging gracefully.
