TAYLOR'S - Porto - Vintage 2003
The Taylor's Port House, an essential emblem of Portuguese oenology, is located in Vila Nova de Gaia, on the south bank of the spectacular Douro River, facing the historic city of Porto, in Portugal. Founded in 1692 by Job Bearsley, Taylor's is one of the oldest and most respected Port houses, combining tradition and excellence. Today, it is proudly managed by the Yeatman family, who passionately continue a know-how passed down for over two centuries. Taylor's wines mainly come from grapes grown in the prestigious vineyards of the Douro Valley, an exceptional terroir where the Mediterranean climate and the unique soil composition give the grapes unparalleled quality, ideal for producing authentic and refined Port wines. Furthermore, Taylor's diversifies its expertise by producing still wines in the Douro region and also owns renowned vineyards in other prestigious Portuguese wine regions, notably in the Alentejo wine region.
The Taylor's Vintage Port is produced only in exceptional years, true vintage gems, to guarantee superior quality and a unique tasting experience. This Vintage is a subtle blend of the finest crus from the three emblematic estates of the House: Quinta de Vargellas, Quinta de Terra Feita, and more recently, Quinta do Junco. The 2003 vintage began with a particularly wet winter, essential for replenishing soil water reserves. Flowering took place under a radiant sky, with late May offering ideal climatic conditions, among the most favorable observed in several years. This climate was followed by two weeks in early August marked by intense summer heat, characteristic of great Vintage Port vintages, ensuring exceptional aromatic concentration. The harvest, started in September under warm and dry weather, allowed the grapes to be picked with perfectly balanced yields among the different grape varieties, thus guaranteeing remarkable harmony and complexity in this exceptional wine.
