The Maison Christian Drouin is an essential reference located in the heart of the Pays d’Auge, in Normandy, a region world-renowned for the quality of its Calvados. Founded in 1960 by Christian Drouin senior at Fiefs Saint-Anne, near Honfleur, the house benefits from an exceptional terroir enriched by cider apple orchards. Driven by a passion for Calvados, Christian Drouin began distilling his cider with the expertise of the famous distiller Pierre Pivet. For two decades, he refined the production and aging of his eaux-de-vie in the old farm buildings. From 1969, Christian Drouin junior joined the family business, bringing new momentum. Commercialization began in 1979 when stocks were deemed mature enough to meet the demands of a discerning clientele, including prestigious hotels and restaurants internationally. Due to growing success, production was moved at the end of the 1990s to a farm near Pont-l’Évêque. In 2004, Guillaume Drouin, an agronomist engineer and oenologist, embodied the third generation by first dedicating himself to export, then taking over management in 2013 and contributing to the international reputation of the estate.
The apples destined for Christian Drouin Calvados come from two emblematic orchards, rich in thirty different varieties, cultivated according to the demanding principles of organic farming. This expertise allows the creation of a base cider slowly fermented, guaranteeing great aromatic complexity. The production process relies on a traditional double distillation in a 2,500-liter pot still, ensuring the authenticity of the aromatic profile. Aging takes place in a rigorous selection of old casks that previously held Sherry, Port, Rivesaltes, Banyuls, imparting personality, elegance, and richness to each Calvados.
JM Angel is an exceptional cuvée of Calvados, aged for 10 years. This exceptional spirit benefits from a unique refinement of an additional 8.5 months in French oak barrels that tamed a remarkable JM VSOP rum.
