The Christian Drouin House, located in the heart of the Pays d’Auge in Normandy, represents the heritage of a unique family know-how for over sixty years. Founded in 1960 by Christian Drouin senior, the house began its story near Honfleur, at Fiefs Saint-Anne, on an estate dotted with cider apple trees grown according to the principles of organic farming.
Driven by a passion for high-end spirits, Christian Drouin partnered with Pierre Pivet, a recognized master distiller, to craft exceptional Calvados. After a patient and careful production, the first commercial release took place in 1979, followed by remarkable expansion under the impetus of Christian Drouin junior, who directed distribution towards the finest hotels and restaurants in France and internationally. Facing growing success, production later moved near Pont-l’Evêque to support the house’s development. In 2004, Guillaume Drouin, third generation and an agronomist-oenologist engineer, joined the venture, bringing new momentum by developing exports and now leading this illustrious distillery.
The Calvados VSOP Christian Drouin comes exclusively from two artisanal orchards grouping more than thirty varieties of apples selected for their aromatic complexity. After a slow fermentation of the cider, this Calvados benefits from a traditional double distillation in a 2,500-liter pot still, revealing finesse and elegance. The careful aging takes place in casks that previously held prestigious wines such as Sherry, Port, Rivesaltes, or Banyuls, imparting rich and refined aromatic nuances to the spirit.
The Calvados VSOP is patiently aged in 225-liter casks, specially selected for having contained wine, enriching the organoleptic profile and enhancing the spirit’s personality.
