CALVADOS - Christian Drouin - Calvados Domfrontais - 40%
Maison Christian Drouin is located in the Pays d'Auge region of Normandy . In 1960, Christian Drouin senior moved to Fiefs Saint-Anne, near Honfleur. The farm was planted with cider apple trees and he quickly developed the desire to produce Calvados. With the help of Pierre Pivet, a renowned distiller, he spent the first twenty years distilling his cider and storing it in buildings on the farm. In 1969, Christian Drouin Fils joined forces with his father. Marketing began in 1979, when stocks were deemed sufficient. After 10 years abroad, Christian Drouin fils gave a new dimension to his Calvados and distributed them to major hotels and restaurants. At the end of the 1990s, to meet the need for space resulting from the estate's success, Christian Drouin transferred production to another farm near Pont l'Evêque. In 2004, Guillaume Drouin , the third generation, joined the company. He is an agricultural engineer and oenologist and devoted the first five years in the company to developing exports before taking over production management and then the management of the company in 2013.
Christian Drouin's Domfrontais is a blend of Calvados aged for 3 to 5 years in small oak barrels . The originality of Domfrontais Calvados lies in its high percentage of perry pears and its simple distillation in a column still. The pear trees of the Domfront region, sometimes centuries old, are large trees producing small fruits with subtle aromas and a frank acidity. These pears (around 60% of the blend, along with the apples), bring freshness, elegance and crispness to a particularly fruity Calvados.
