Launceston - Exceptional Tasmanian Whisky - Bourbon Cask - Lot H17-36 - 46%
The Launceston Distillery is located in the heart of the historic city of Launceston in Tasmania, an island world-renowned for its artisanal whiskies of remarkable quality. Tasmania's unique and temperate climate, combined with its ideal lands for growing local barley, gives the whiskies a singular aromatic complexity and optimal aging. The first whisky distillery in Launceston, the Caledonian Distillery, founded in 1824, marked the beginning of a long tradition before the interruption imposed by the Distillation Prohibition Act in 1839. Since the legislation change in 1992 allowing spirit production, Tasmania has experienced a revival in the art of whisky. The Launceston Distillery, the first to obtain a new license in nearly 180 years, continues this heritage within an emblematic location: Hangar 17 at Launceston Airport, a historic building of local aviation. Equipped with a 1,600-liter wash still and a 700-liter pot still designed by expert Peter Bailly of Knapp Lewer Engineering, the distillery combines traditional know-how and technical innovation.
Launceston whisky is made exclusively with selected Tasmanian barley, and the pure water used comes directly from the Tamar River, an exceptionally pure source nearby. The careful aging takes place in a variety of American and European oak casks, including former Bourbon barrels, Apera (a unique Australian sherry), and Tawny (a distinctive type of Australian port), thus offering a rich, round, and complex aromatic palette.
This rare whisky comes from a single cask (#H17-36) previously used for Bourbon. Only 412 numbered bottles were produced, making this edition a true treasure for exceptional whisky lovers.
