Launceston - Tasmanian Whisky - Apera Cask - Lot H17-41 - 46%
\nThe Launceston Distillery is located in the charming town of Launceston in Tasmania, a region world-renowned for producing premium whiskies. Tasmania's unique climate, combined with exceptional terroir, offers ideal conditions for growing high-quality barley and optimal whisky maturation. The local distillation history dates back to the establishment of the first distillery, the Caledonian Distillery, in 1824. However, the enactment of the Distillation Prohibition Act in 1839 halted spirit production on the island for nearly 150 years. It was only in 1992, after legislative changes, that Tasmania saw the rebirth of its whisky industry with the opening of the first modern distillery.
\nThe Launceston Distillery thus marked a historic turning point by becoming the first legal distillery to operate since the closure of Caledonian in 1839, reviving the whisky tradition in Tasmania. Founded in 2018, this family-owned distillery is housed in the famous Hangar 17, the oldest commercial aviation building in the state. Its high-end equipment includes a 1,600-litre wash still and a 700-litre pot still, manufactured by Peter Bailly of Knapp Lewer Engineering, a world leader in still design.
\nThis exceptional whisky is made from carefully selected local Tasmanian barley and benefits from pure water sourced directly from the nearby Tamar River, a key element in developing the spirit's aromas. Maturation takes place in a carefully selected range of American and European oak casks that previously held Bourbon, Apera – a unique Australian sherry – or Tawny, a traditional Australian port wine.
\nFor this Apera Cask lot, the whisky was patiently aged in 2 former casks that previously contained fortified Apera wine, ensuring an incomparable aromatic richness, tinged with dried fruits and soft spices. Each cask matured the spirit for a minimum of 5 years before a meticulous blending, followed by a 2-month rest in tank to perfectly harmonize the flavors before bottling. Only 455 bottles were produced, making each bottle a rare and sought-after collector's item.
\nNon-Peated – Purity and Authenticity guaranteeing a refined tasting experience.
