The Glenturret - Triple Wood - 44%
The Glenturret Distillery is located in Crieff, in the heart of the majestic Scottish Highlands, in Scotland. Officially founded in 1763 by Sir Patrick Murray of Ochtertyre, it has roots dating back to 1717, when it operated under the control of illicit distillers seeking to evade taxation. This rich history makes Glenturret a contender for the title of Scotland's oldest distillery, an honor also claimed by other iconic establishments such as Littlemill or Strathisla. In 1814, the Murray family sold the distillery, then called "Thurot," to Thomas MacInnes who renamed it "The Hosh Distillery." Seven years after purchasing the distillery in 1825, local merchants John and Hugh Drummond obtained the Ochtertyre agreement, allowing the combined use of the pure water from Loch Turret and local peat, a key ingredient to give the whisky its unique character. In 1845, John McCallum took over before Thomas Stewart became the owner in 1875, definitively renaming the establishment "Glenturret" on its centenary. Closed during the First World War, then taken over by the Mitchell brothers until 1921, the distillery was again put on hold due to the Great Depression and American Prohibition. Production restarted in 1957 under the direction of James Fairlie, who sold it in 1981 to the Cointreau group. It then passed into the hands of Highland Distillers in 1990 before being integrated into the Edrington group in 1999. In 2018, the distillery changed ownership again by joining the Lalique group. In September 2020, after more than 250 years of expertise, The Glenturret offers a new exceptional range, designed by the highly reputed Whisky Maker Bob Dalgarno.
The Glenturret Triple Wood benefits from a unique maturation in American and European oak casks that previously held sherry, as well as Bourbon casks, giving this whisky a rare aromatic complexity and exceptional depth.
