The Christian Drouin House, a true reference in high-end Calvados, is ideally located in the Pays d’Auge, in the heart of Normandy, a region emblematic of cider and apple brandy production. Founded in 1960, when Christian Drouin Sr. settled at the Fiefs Saint-Anne estate near Honfleur, the house then relied on a terroir composed of traditional cider apple orchards. The expertise of the famous distiller Pierre Pivet allowed Christian Drouin to develop a unique artisanal method, dedicating nearly twenty years to the distillation and perfectionist aging of his ciders in the old farm buildings.
In 1969, Christian Drouin Jr. joined the family venture, bringing a marketing dynamic to the house from 1979. Quickly, the brand gained recognition among the most prestigious starred restaurants and luxury hotels. Facing growing success, the activity was moved to a farm near Pont l’Évêque at the end of the 1990s to meet demand and enrich the family tradition.
In 2004, the arrival of Guillaume Drouin, an agronomist engineer and oenologist, marked the entry of the third generation at the head of the Christian Drouin house. He initiated an ambitious export development, took full charge of production management, and became general manager in 2013, thus perpetuating the family know-how while opening the house to innovation and international markets.
The cider apples come from two orchards certified Organic Agriculture, housing about thirty carefully selected old varieties chosen for the aromatic complexity of their fruits. The cider, slowly fermented according to traditional methods, then undergoes a double distillation in a 2,500-liter pot still. This process guarantees purity and elegance in the final eau-de-vie. The aging takes place in exceptional old barrels that previously held Sherry, Port, Rivesaltes, or Banyuls, enriching the aromatic palette of the Calvados.
Calvados Caroni Angels is a rare masterpiece: after an initial traditional aging of 17 years, it undergoes a unique finishing of 8 months in 6 Caroni rum barrels, from the famous now-defunct Trinidad distillery. This finishing gives it exceptional depth and aromatic complexity, blending notes of apple, exotic fruits, spices, and Caribbean influence. Bottled in August 2022, this exceptional Calvados is available in a limited edition of only 1,506 bottles.
