The Shinshu Distillery is an integral part of the Hombo Shuzo group (also known as Hombo Brewing Co.) and offers prestigious whiskies marketed under the famous Mars Whisky brand. Founded in 1872 by Honbu Matsusa, the company is located at 800 meters altitude in the picturesque village of Miyata, situated on the Japanese island of Kyushu. In 1949, Hombo Shuzo obtained a license to produce whisky at the Kagoshima distillery before refocusing its activity on the Shinshu distillery. Despite a slowdown in production in 1992 due to lower demand, the distillery resumed operations in 2012, thus strengthening its position in the quality Japanese whisky market. The flagship whisky of this distillery is the Komagatake, an exceptional Single Malt named after the largest of the many surrounding mountains. Notable expressions also include the Mars Maltage Cosmo, launched in July 2015 in tribute to the unique location of the distillery and the night sky visible from Mount Komagatake, a symbol of authenticity and refinement.
This limited edition bottled in 2021 is an exceptional blend, skillfully combining the distinct flavors of whiskies from the Mars Shinshu distillery and the prestigious Chichibu distillery. Meticulously aged at the Mars Shinshu distillery, this rare blend stands out for its aromatic intensity and richness on the palate.
