NAGAHAMA - French Oak Quarter Single Cask No. #0001 - Vintage 2017 - 54.60% | Clos des Spiritueux
The Nagahama Distillery, located in Shiga Prefecture in Japan, is a key reference in the world of artisanal Japanese whisky. Originally founded under the name Nagahama Roman Beer Co. Ltd, it began whisky production in 2016. Today, Nagahama is recognized as the smallest distillery in Japan, combining traditional craftsmanship with modernity. In addition to producing unique Single Malt whiskies, the distillery also selects and blends exceptional whiskies from abroad, then matures them in Nagahama’s unique climate to give them a distinctive character.
Its unique still, with a capacity of 1,000 liters and a residual distillate of 500 liters, is among the smallest in Japan. Distillation is carried out by indirect steam heating, ensuring perfect control of the aromas. Named "Aranbic" for its oriental appearance, this still plays a key role in creating the characteristic aromatic profile of Nagahama whiskies. The pure water used comes from Mount Ibuki, rich in minerals essential to the quality of the distillate, while the barley, peated or unpeated, is carefully selected and grown in England. The distillery belongs to the renowned Shin group.
Resulting from the expert work of master blender Takashi Kiyoi and distiller Yusuke Yahisa, this exceptional Single Malt was aged in a small French oak cask that previously held wine, for incomparable aromatic complexity and an elegant, woody, and subtly fruity profile.
