KILKERRAN - 8 years - Cask Strength - 56.2%
The Springbank Distillery is one of the last authentic distilleries remaining in the iconic Campbeltown region, located on the Kintyre peninsula in the southwest of Scotland. It is globally recognized for its artisanal expertise in producing Single Malt whisky under three distinct brands with unique characters: Springbank, Longrow, and Hazelburn. Founded in 1828 by Archibald and Hugh Mitchell, this historic distillery was the 14th to be officially licensed in Campbeltown. Facing the decline in the number of distilleries in the region, only Springbank and Glen Scotia survived after 1934, enhancing the prestige and exclusivity of their productions. Even today, it remains owned by the direct descendants of the founders, thus ensuring family continuity and a centuries-old tradition.
What distinguishes Springbank is its complete mastery of the manufacturing process: from milling to distillation, including traditional barley malting and bottling, everything is done on-site. This rigorous control allows the creation of three unique whisky styles, each influenced by the choice of casks, the exceptional terroir, and the specific climate of the peninsula. The parent company, JA Mitchell & Sons, also revived the Glengyle distillery in 2004, where Single Malts are marketed under the prestigious Kilkerran brand. The group also includes the independent bottler Cadenhead's, known for its rare and high-quality selections.
This Kilkerran Cask Strength is a limited edition from the Glengyle distillery, carefully aged for 8 years before bottling in 2017, appreciated for its exceptional intensity and aromatic depth.
