Hontambère – RAC Spirits – Armagnac Ténarèze 1995 – Ugni Blanc – Single Cask #B4 – Pouchégu – 200 bottles – 54.8%
Nestled in Castelnau d’Auzan, at the heart of the Ténarèze, the Hontambère house embodies the excellence of artisanal Armagnac. Under the direction of Cindy Crighton and the expertise of distiller and cellar master Sylvain Lafargue, the estate cultivates its vineyards with the emblematic grape varieties of the appellation: Ugni Blanc, Baco, Folle Blanche, and Colombard. In a genuine century-old Armagnac alambic, the eaux-de-vie are born before resting in the estate’s cellars. Hontambère is not limited to production: the house is also a bottler and guardian of a precious heritage of old casks, notably from the renowned Pouchégu distillery. Today, more than 550 barrels patiently mature in its cellars, preserving a rich history and a unique aromatic diversity.
The Hontambère 1995 edition is a true rarity. Distilled in December 1995 from Ugni Blanc, it has matured for 30 years in a single dry cask (#B4) before being bottled in September 2025. This exceptional ageing gives it an incomparable personality: the nose opens with candied fruits, prune, dried apricot, and citrus zest, enhanced by subtle woody nuances and fine spices. The palate, broad and suave, reveals a very fruity, indulgent, and perfectly balanced character, supported by an elegant freshness. The finish, impressively long, expresses the quintessence of the Ténarèze terroir.
Only 200 bottles were produced, making this cuvée an absolute collector’s item. Considered a coup de cœur and one of the greatest Armagnacs currently available, it will seduce both seasoned connoisseurs and collectors in search of an exceptional bottle.
