TOBERMORY - Gin - 43.3%
The Tobermory Distillery is nestled on the Isle of Mull, off the famous west coast of Scotland. Founded in 1798, it holds the unique status of being the only whisky distillery on the Isle of Mull and is one of the oldest commercial distilleries in Scotland, boasting a rich heritage of over two centuries. In 1797, John Sinclair, a visionary kelp merchant, applied for a 57-acre lease in the renowned Ledaig area to build housing and a distillery. His initial request was rejected, and he was only granted permission to build a brewery. Determined to realize his project, he persevered, and a year later the Ledaig distillery finally came into existence. In the 1930s, the Great Depression coupled with Prohibition in the United States caused a steep decline in whisky demand, leading to the distillery's closure for 41 consecutive years. It was not until 1993, after its acquisition by Burn Stewart Distillers, that the distillery was revived. Since 2013, it has been owned by the Distell group. The distillery produces Tobermory Gin as well as two remarkable Single Malts: a non-peated Tobermory and an intensely peated Ledaig. These two whiskies are made using the same stills, washbacks (fermentation vats), mash tuns (mashing vessels), and the same pure water, but reveal radically different aromatic profiles thanks to the variation in malted barley used.
Tobermory Gin is made from a neutral grain spirit combined with an exceptional distillate from the stills dedicated to Tobermory whisky production, carefully distilled to achieve a spirit of unparalleled purity and freshness. The botanicals are infused for a minimum of 24 hours in this base distillate to extract all subtleties and complexities. The precisely selected botanical ingredients include juniper, heather, tea, elderflower, and a delicate zest of orange peel. This Gin was awarded the prestigious title of "Best Scottish Classic Gin" at the World Gin Awards 2020, only six months after its market launch. Its iconic bottle charmingly depicts the picturesque village of Tobermory and its famous colorful houses, reflecting the authentic soul of this exceptional distillery.
