WATERFORD - Cuvée Argot - 47%
The Waterford Distillery, located in the charming town of Waterford in Ireland, is a flagship of innovation in the world of Irish whiskey. Originally founded by Diageo in 2004, this distillery was completely transformed in 2015 under the visionary leadership of Mark Reynier, famous for revitalizing the Bruichladdich distillery on the Isle of Islay. Inspired by the methods of the greatest international winemakers, Mark Reynier created a concept of unique terroir whiskies, highlighting the precise origin of the barley, its terroir, and growing conditions. In collaboration with 86 Irish farms spread over 19 distinct soils, including organic and biodynamic barley crops, Waterford ensures meticulous and traceable production. Each harvest is logically tracked through a sophisticated digital system allowing the malting and distillation of each farm's production separately, thus guaranteeing exceptional authenticity and aromatic richness.
The Argot cuvée follows a quality-driven approach, directly inspired by the prestigious world of Bordeaux wines, a major reference in spirit aging. Representing the distillery's "Second Wine," this edition is distinguished by moderate aging in oak barrels, imparting a balanced and subtle aromatic profile. This exceptional whiskey is a blend of 14 Single Farm Origins, each distilled with extreme and identical rigor, from a refined blend of several barley varieties: Irina (35%), Olympus (21%), Laureate (14%), Taberna (11.5%), Propino (11.5%), and Overture (7%). The maturation lasted precisely 3 years, 1 month, and 8 days, in a unique blend of carefully selected casks: 37% first-fill American oak barrels from renowned distilleries such as Jack Daniels, Makers Mark, Barton 1792, Jim Beam, Heaven Hill, and Four Roses; 23% fortified wine casks including Rivesaltes, Port, Amarone, Sauternes, and Marsala; 21% French oak barrels that previously held Bordeaux wine (Château Palmer, Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Léoville, Château Margaux, and Château Mouton Rothschild); and 19% virgin American oak barrels (Kelvin Cooperage, Speyside, Jim Beam, and Seagrams). The final blend took place on July 7, 2022, followed by meticulous bottling in February 2023.
Non-peated whiskey, offering exceptional purity and aromatic finesse.
