BALLECHIN - 2008 - 14 years - Grand Arôme Savanna Rum Cask - 61%
Edradour is an iconic Scottish distillery from the Highlands, located in the charming village of Moulin, near Pitlochry. Recognized as the smallest traditional Scottish whisky distillery, it embodies authenticity with its status as the last small farm producer dating back to the Victorian era still in operation. Its fame also extends thanks to its fascinating history linked to the New York mafia. Founded in 1825 under the name Glenforres Distillery by a cooperative of passionate local farmers, Edradour has preserved a rare artisanal know-how. In 1938, Irving Haim, an agent close to Frank Costello, the famous New York mafia boss, took control. Upon his death in 1976, the company passed into the hands of an American-Australian consortium before being acquired in 1982 by a subsidiary of the Pernod Ricard group. Since 2002, the distillery has belonged to Signatory Vintage Ltd. Edradour carefully preserves its traditional and antique equipment, notably with a mash tun cooled thanks to the last Morton refrigerator marketed, operating exclusively with cold water, without any computer control, guaranteeing an artisanal and authentic production.
This limited edition of Ballechin was carefully distilled on September 10, 2008, and aged for 14 years in an exclusive Single Cask (#226). The whisky benefited from an exceptional finishing in a cask that previously contained Grand Arôme Savanna rum, giving this spirit unique notes and a rare aromatic complexity. Only 480 bottles were bottled, attesting to its rare and precious character.
