Glen Scotia - 8 years - Campbeltown Festival - 56.5%
Glen Scotia is an iconic distillery located in Campbeltown, on the Kintyre peninsula in Scotland, a region renowned for its unique and characterful whiskies. Founded in 1832 under the name Scotia by Mayor James Stewart and Provost John Galbraith, it has played a major role in the history of Scottish whisky. Glen Scotia is one of the six founding distilleries of the "West Highland Malt Distilleries" collective created in 1919 to pool costs and preserve local activity. In 1924, the distillery was acquired by Duncan MacCallum, founder of Glen Nevis, before being temporarily closed in 1928 and reopened in 1930. Marked by a turbulent history, including a takeover by Bloch Brothers who added "Glen" to its name, Glen Scotia is surrounded by a legend that MacCallum's ghost still haunts its walls. Remaining under Bloch Brothers' control until 1954, the distillery then went through several ownership changes, with closures between 1984 and 1989. Relaunched by Gibson International, then taken over by Glen Catrine Bonded Warehouse Ltd, it resumed continuous production in 1999. In 2014, the Loch Lomond group acquired Glen Scotia, investing significantly to develop this legendary brand, increase production capacity, create new warehouses, and establish a visitor center for enthusiasts.
