The prestigious Longueteau family settled in Guadeloupe in 1766. However, it was at the end of the 19th century that Louis-Philippe Henry Longueteau acquired an iconic part of the Marquisate of Sainte-Marie during the auction following the sugar industry crisis. In 1895, he then purchased the Habitation Espérance to transform the estate, shifting from sugar production to exceptional agricultural rum production. Today, François Longueteau leads the Maison Longueteau, the only distillery in Guadeloupe where the owner is simultaneously the farmer, producer, and master distiller, thus ensuring total quality control at every stage.
Longueteau rums, renowned for their aromatic richness, are made exclusively from sugarcane grown on the family estate. Harvested at optimal maturity and crushed the same day, these freshly pressed canes provide a pure and authentic juice. The natural fermentation, lasting 48 hours without any additives, allows the full expression of the Guadeloupe terroir’s uniqueness. Distillation then takes place in a Savalle column with 28 plates, guaranteeing finesse, intensity, and elegance in the white rums.
