The Nc’Nean Distillery, located in Drimnin on the wild and preserved west coast of the Highlands of Scotland, is a true gem of organic and sustainable whisky. Nc’nean (pronounced Nook-knee-anne) takes its name from Neachneohain, an ancient Gaelic goddess, also called the Queen of Spirits, known as a fierce protector of nature and the environment. The story of this distillery began in 2012 when the Lewis family decided to revive the historic Drimnin Estate, which they had acquired about ten years earlier. In 2013, the conversion work of the historic farm buildings adjacent to Drimnin House progressed, supported by the passion of Annabel Thomas, daughter of the family, who left her job in London to become CEO of Drimnin Distillery Ltd and personally lead this innovative and planet-friendly project.
After two rigorous investment campaigns, including a public grant, the distillery finally opened in March 2017, committed to an exemplary ecological approach: exclusive use of Scottish barley grown according to organic standards, powering the distillery with renewable energy sources, and an impressive recycling rate reaching 99.97% of waste, thus minimizing the ecological impact of production. This pioneering approach makes Nc’Nean a key player in organic and sustainable whisky, prized by enthusiasts sensitive to quality and environmental respect.
The Batch No. 16 was distilled between June 2017 and April 2018, then carefully aged in STR red wine casks* at 65%, combined with 35% ex-Bourbon casks, which gives the whisky a unique aromatic complexity, marked by intense fruity notes and a subtle touch of vanilla and oak. Bottling took place from May 9, 2022, with a limited run of 5,040 bottles, ensuring rarity and premium quality sought by collectors and connoisseurs. This organic, non-peated Single Malt reveals a purity and finesse that perfectly reflect Nc’Nean distillery’s eco-responsible commitment and artisanal know-how.
