The Akkeshi Distillery, located in Hokkaido in rural northern Japan, stands out for the excellence of its rare artisanal whiskies. Founded by Keiichi Toita, visionary president of Kenten Co. Ltd, it embodies Japanese passion and expertise in spirits. Its story began in 2013 with the experimentation of aging barrels of distillate from the best Japanese distilleries, before building its own distillery in 2015 in a unique environment composed of peat-rich wetlands, resting on soft soil up to 50 meters deep. To erect the distillery, the Columbus construction method was used, innovating by replacing the soil under the foundations with expanded polystyrene, thus ensuring the stability of the facilities. In 2016, the Scottish technical team from Forsyths installed stills to international standards to begin the distillation process. Akkeshi places great importance on traditional Scottish distillation methods to produce exceptional whiskies that rival in elegance and character the greatest Islay Malts. The very first single malt signed Akkeshi was unveiled in 2018, marking a new chapter in the history of premium Japanese whisky.
Akkeshi Daikan represents the prestigious sixth edition of the " 24 Solar Term Series ", inspired by the ancient Asian calendar that divides the year into 24 distinct solar seasons. The term " Daikan " refers to the coldest period of winter, a time when the mythical natural phenomenon called Kearashi (frosty mist) rises, enveloping Akkeshi Bay in a mysterious veil. The label of this limited edition beautifully illustrates this ascent of the Kearashi at dawn, a refined detail that will captivate collectors and lovers of rare spirits.
