Saint Aubin - History Collection Isle de France - Vintage 2005 - 40%
The Domaine de Saint Aubin is located in Savanne, on Mauritius Island, a true jewel of the Indian Ocean. This iconic estate embodies Mauritian heritage and authenticity through its colonial architecture dating back to the 19th century, its renowned vanilla plantation, its magnificent tropical flower greenhouse, and of course, its exceptional artisanal rum distillery. The cultivation of sugar cane, the estate's cornerstone, dates back to 1819, ensuring expertise passed down from generation to generation.
The Isle de France cuvée is part of the prestigious History Collection range from the Saint Aubin rum distillery. It is a blend of the finest aged rums, carefully selected to offer a unique and refined experience. With the History Collection, the Domaine de Saint Aubin Rum Distillery pays a vibrant tribute to the major historical moments that shaped Mauritius. The “Cuvée Grande Réserve” commemorates the tricentennial of the arrival of the French on Mauritius in September 1715, an event symbolized by the meeting of the stag and the dodo on the Isle de France coat of arms.
Driven by the threat of pirates, France sent a warship under the command of Guillaume Dufresne d’Arsel, originally from Saint-Malo, to take possession of the island on September 20, 1715, in the name of Louis XIV. Renamed “Isle de France”, the island became a major strategic point for France to ensure the security of commercial navigation to India.
