Père Labat - Black Opus 2009 - 42%
Père Labat is a prestigious brand of agricultural rums from the paradisiacal island of Marie-Galante, a true jewel of the Antilles. The history of this emblematic distillery dates back to the 18th century, when a visionary, Madame Poisson, acquired an estate then solely dedicated to sugar production. Located in the heart of an exceptional terroir, this property underwent a major transformation at the beginning of the 20th century under the impetus of Monsieur Rameau, a passionate new owner. He drastically modernized the site by investing in a traditional red copper still and a Creole column, key elements for producing exceptional agricultural rums. Thanks to these innovations, Domaine Poisson evolved from a simple sugar factory into a renowned distillery. To pay tribute to the illustrious Père Labat, pioneer of fresh cane wine distillation techniques, the house named its emblematic cuvées "les rhums du Père Labat," synonymous with quality, authenticity, and traditional know-how of agricultural rums.
Black Opus 2009 is an exceptional rum, aged for 8 years in Bourbon barrels that previously held this iconic American whiskey, imparting complex and rich aromas. This aging is followed by an extended refinement of 3 years in ex-Cognac barrels, themselves subjected to three different types of charring, a rare method that brings depth, finesse, and a unique aromatic palette combining woody, spicy, and fruity notes. This meticulous maturation process guarantees an intense tasting experience, offering a perfect balance between power and elegance, ideal for discerning enthusiasts seeking a premium agricultural rum with refined flavors.
