The Nc’Nean Distillery is nestled in Drimnin, on the iconic west coast of the Highlands of Scotland, a region renowned for its exceptional whiskies. The name Nc’Nean (pronounced Nook-knee-anne) comes from Neachneohain, an ancient Gaelic goddess revered as the Queen of Spirits, famous for being a passionate protector of Scotland's wild nature. The idea to build a distillery on the historic Drimnin Estate was initiated by the Lewis family in 2012, a decade after acquiring and meticulously restoring this ancestral property. In 2013, work began to transform the historic farm buildings adjacent to Drimnin House into a distillery, driven by the determined vision of Annabel Thomas, who left her position in London to become the visionary CEO of Drimnin Distillery Ltd. After two funding campaigns, including a government grant, the distillery was established in March 2017 with a strong mission: to produce a sustainable whisky, combining aromatic quality and total respect for the environment. To achieve this, the distillery uses exclusively organic Scottish barley, operates 100% on renewable energy, and rigorously recycles 99.97% of its waste to minimize its ecological footprint.
The Batch No. 5, distilled between April and August 2017, reveals the full finesse of the terroir. This single malt was aged in STR red wine casks* (65%) – an innovative maturation method offering intense aromatic richness – complemented by a finish in ex-Bourbon casks (35%), providing softness and complexity. Bottled from January 5, 2021, this exceptional batch is limited to only 5,040 numbered bottles, ensuring exclusivity in every sip.
Non-peated – to preserve the purity and natural expression of the organic Scottish barley.
