Tempo d'Angélus - Magnum 2023
Created in 2019 under the impetus of Stéphanie de Boüard-Rivoal, Tempo d'Angélus expands the universe of the de Boüard de Laforest family with a cuvée designed to offer a more immediate reading of its expertise. The wine is produced in the Bordeaux appellation from plots located in Castillon-la-Bataille and Sainte-Colombe, a few kilometers from Saint-Émilion. These clay-limestone hillside terroirs were acquired with the specific objective of producing a cuvée accessible in its youth while retaining depth and precision. The vinification is carried out at the Chai Carillon, in Saint-Magne-de-Castillon, in a facility designed to work on different lots with great precision. Merlot largely dominates the blend and finds on these clay-limestone soils a favorable context for expressing ripe but fresh fruit. Cabernet Franc brings a spicy dimension and additional tension. The magnum format finally offers particularly favorable conditions for a slow and regular evolution of the vintage.
Tempo d'Angélus 2023 blends 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. The vintage particularly highlights the aromatic character of Merlot, in a register of fresh red fruits and floral nuances. The Cabernet Franc, used in a more discreet proportion, enriches the whole with spicy notes and darker fruits while reinforcing the finesse of the tannic structure. The vinification work aims for a clear expression of the fruit and a structure sufficiently built to give depth without seeking the power of the great Saint-Émilion age-worthy wines. The clay-limestone origin of the grapes helps maintain freshness at the heart of a supple and generous matter. This architecture makes the 2023 relatively accessible young, while leaving it an interesting capacity for evolution. In magnum, this maturation should be even more progressive, with prolonged preservation of aromatic brightness.
The color shows a deep ruby hue with still very youthful purple reflections. The nose opens on cherry, raspberry, and small red berries, then gains nuances of violet and fine spices with aeration. Merlot gives a supple and fleshy mouthfeel, with a crunchy fruit that retains a pleasant sensation of freshness. Cabernet Franc brings touches of black fruits, pepper, and a more slender tannic framework. The texture remains silky, with a present structure but without excessive harshness. The finish returns to red fruits, spices, and a slight floral dimension, in a precise and gourmand register. This 2023 magnum will accompany duck breast, roasted veal chop, beef fillet, poultry with mushrooms, or aged cheeses.
