Château Grand Village - Red 2022
Château Grand Village is a Bordeaux Supérieur located in Mouillac, north of Fronsac, Bordeaux . It is owned by the Guinaudeau family , owners of Château Lafleur , the Grand Cru of Pomerol. The family has been established in the region since the 17th century, but the first vintage of Grand Village was not produced until 1980. The 17.8-hectare vineyard is planted primarily with red grape varieties (14 hectares), with a small plot where Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon are grown. Château Grand Village uses the same vineyard cultivation techniques as those used at Château Lafleur.
Château Grand Village red is a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc . The grapes are harvested by hand and then meticulously sorted. The wine is vinified in traditional cement vats and then aged partially in barrels previously used for the vinification of Pomerol , with 30% new French oak barrels for approximately 12 months before bottling. These new barrels are then sent to Château Lafleur for the aging of the Grand Vin and Pensées de Lafleur for the following vintage.
