Jean Foillard - Morgon - Corcelette 2023
Based in Morgon since the 1980s, Jean Foillard is an iconic figure in the Beaujolais region. A pioneer of the natural wine movement, he cultivates his vines without herbicides or chemicals, harvests by hand, and vinifies with indigenous yeasts, drastically limiting the use of sulfur. His vintages are among the most sought-after for their aromatic purity, silkiness, and fidelity to the terroir.
The Corcelette climate, located north of the Morgon appellation, is renowned for its granite sand soils that give Gamay a fine and airy expression. Unlike the mineral power of the Côte du Py, Corcelette produces more delicate, floral, and immediately charming wines. The 2023 vintage, marked by even maturity and a beautiful climatic balance, reveals a Morgon that is both elegant and indulgent, with great drinkability while retaining aging potential.
The brilliant ruby color reflects the finesse of the terroir. The nose seduces with its aromas of fresh red fruits (raspberry, cherry, redcurrant), violet, and rose, complemented by a hint of spice. On the palate, the attack is supple and delicate, supported by fine, melted tannins. The body, airy yet precise, is balanced around a lively freshness and an elegant sandy minerality. The finish is long and fragrant, with a return to flowers and small red fruits. A refined Morgon, ideal now but capable of evolving gracefully over 5 to 8 years.
