Jean Foillard - Morgon - Classic 2023
An iconic figure in Beaujolais, Jean Foillard has established himself as one of the great masters of Morgon, alongside other visionary winemakers. Established since the 1980s, he advocates a natural and respectful approach: vines cultivated without herbicides, hand-harvested, indigenous yeasts, long carbonic macerations, and very little sulfur. His wines sincerely express the terroir and are distinguished by their purity, depth, and elegance.
The Classique cuvée is the estate's signature entry, sourced from various Morgon plots planted on manganese-rich granite soils. The 2023 vintage, sunny but balanced by cool nights, produced perfectly ripe and juicy grapes. True to the Foillard style, this Morgon combines the immediate lusciousness of the fruit with a subtle structure, allowing both pleasure in its youth and an aging potential of 5 to 10 years.
The bright ruby color announces a fresh and vibrant wine. The nose opens with intense aromas of red and black fruits (cherry, raspberry, blackberry), enhanced by floral and spicy notes. On the palate, the attack is supple and fruity, carried by a silky texture and precise acidity. The balance between gourmandize and minerality gives great drinkability, a signature of the estate. The finish, long and delicate, leaves an impression of purity and freshness that makes you want to come back. A "pleasure" Morgon but with the depth that characterizes the wines of Jean Foillard.
