Jean Foillard - Beaujolais Blanc 2023
An iconic Morgon winemaker, Jean Foillard is renowned worldwide for his fine Gamay red wines, but he also produces a very limited quantity of Beaujolais Blanc. True to his philosophy, he cultivates his vines without herbicides or chemicals, harvests by hand, and vinifies with indigenous yeasts, in a respectful and precise manner.
This Beaujolais Blanc is made from Chardonnay, planted on limestone and granite soils, which lend freshness and tension to the wine. The 2023 vintage, marked by beautiful grape maturity and a balanced climate, produces a vibrant, highly pure white wine with a profile that is both luscious and mineral. This cuvée illustrates the other facet of Jean Foillard's expertise, beyond Morgon.
The bright pale yellow color with green highlights reflects its youth. The nose opens with aromas of white flowers, fresh apple, pear, and citrus, complemented by a chalky touch. On the palate, the attack is lively and tense, with precise acidity that balances a delicate fruity substance. The finish, long and saline, expresses the freshness and minerality of the terroir. A straightforward and elegant white, perfect as an aperitif, with seafood, grilled fish, or fresh goat cheese.
Grape variety: 100% Chardonnay
