Domaine Paul Prieur - Summer Bottling - Sancerre Blanc 2024
Domaine Paul Prieur et Fils is one of the historic names of Verdigny, the central village of the Sancerrois located at the foot of the Monts Damnés. The Prieur family has been cultivating vines here for many generations, with a continuity that gives the estate an intimate knowledge of the reliefs, exposures, and soils of the Sancerre appellation. Since the 2012 vintage, Luc Prieur has continued this family story with an artisanal approach, attentive to the precision of the wines and the expression of the terroirs. The Sauvignon Blanc vineyard extends over the main soil families of the Sancerrois, between caillottes, white earths, and flint, offering a complete reading of the appellation. Organic farming certification, obtained since 2022, reinforces this search for sincerity and respect for life. The Summer Bottling 2024 fits within this identity with a bright, taut, and precise Sancerre blanc, designed to reveal the freshness of Sauvignon Blanc in a straight and mineral expression.
The Domaine Paul Prieur Summer Bottling Sancerre Blanc 2024 cuvée is made from 100% Sauvignon Blanc. It comes from a blend of different terroirs of the appellation, combining caillottes, flint, and white earths, three major geological signatures of the Sancerrois. Caillottes generally bring brightness, liveliness, and a fine aromatic profile, while white earths provide more structure and depth. Flint contributes tension, straightness, and that stony sensation often sought in great Sancerre blancs. Fermentation begins spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, then aging takes place on lees in stainless steel tanks to preserve the fruit's energy and the purity of the terroir. The name Summer Bottling distinguishes this bottling in the estate's calendar, with a wine already expressive but retaining a good capacity for evolution. The 2024 vintage presents itself in a sharp, fresh style particularly suited to young tasting, while maintaining the mineral depth typical of Sancerre.
On the palate, the Domaine Paul Prieur Summer Bottling Sancerre Blanc 2024 reveals a clean and elegant nose marked by citrus, lemon, grapefruit, white fruits, and a fine vegetal touch. The expression remains faithful to Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc, without varietal excess, with a stony dimension that recalls the diversity of the appellation's soils. On the palate, the attack is lively, precise, and refreshing, supported by a clear acidic framework that gives the wine great momentum. Aging on lees adds a slight texture without weighing down the sensation of purity or masking the mineral tension. The finish is savory, lemony, and persistent, with a saline impression that pleasantly extends the tasting. This Sancerre blanc will perfectly accompany oysters, seafood, ceviche, grilled fish, asparagus, a warm goat cheese salad, or a Crottin de Chavignol. It will be very enjoyable in its youth for its bright freshness but can also evolve for a few years towards greater complexity.
