Château Maucaillou 2023
Château Maucaillou, founded in 1875 in Moulis-en-Médoc, has embodied the precision and generosity of the great Médoc wines for over a century. Located on a gravelly hilltop typical of the Moulis terroir, the estate benefits from a soil blending gravel, clay, and limestone, offering consistent ripeness and a naturally balanced structure. Under the direction of the Dourthe family, Maucaillou pursues a quest for excellence that combines Bordeaux tradition with contemporary rigor.
The 2023 vintage stands out for its freshness and elegance, following a year marked by a temperate summer and late harvests in a dry, bright climate. The blend combines Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot, vinified separately before being partially aged in French oak barrels. The result: a harmonious, expressive wine that is perfectly faithful to the house style, both structured and seductive.
The nose reveals intense aromas of blackcurrant, black cherry, and violet, enhanced by nuances of sweet spices and cedar. On the palate, the texture is supple, balanced by a fine tannic structure and a beautiful liveliness. The mid-palate reveals a full, ample body, supported by a freshness that lengthens the finish. This is expressed through notes of black fruits, mocha, and licorice, marked by the purity of the Cabernet.
A wine for pleasure and aging, to be enjoyed from its youth with grilled red meat, duck breast or a platter of mature cheeses. Serve between 16 and 17°C.
Grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot
