Chateau MAUVESIN BARTON 2020
Château Mauvesin Barton is located in Moulis en Médoc , in the Bordeaux region. The property was first acquired in 1457 by Jean de Foix Grailly. At the end of the 15th century, the Rivière family took possession of it for many years. When the French Revolution broke out, the estate was seized as National Property. It was sold to Luc Clarcke de Dromantin in 1792. The Château as we know it today was built in 1853 by the last Marquis of Mauvesin, Lodoïs Le Blanc de Mauvesin. When he died childless, the Baritault family kept the castle until 2011 when the property was sold to Lilian Barton Sartotrius (Daughter of Anthony Barton) and her two children. The property then changes its name to that of Mauvesin Barton. Today, the estate extends over 220 hectares of which 47 hectares are planted with vines whose average age is 35 years. Château Mauvesin Barton practices sustainable agriculture , with respect for nature.
Château Mauvesin Barton 2020 is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (59%), Merlot (35%) and Cabernet Franc (6%) . The sorted berries are taken to the vat room for the fermentation and maceration phase. The vat room has 24 vats of different sizes which allow each plot to be vinified separately. When maceration is complete, the wine is transferred to French oak barrels for aging for 12 to 15 months in French oak barrels, 1/3 of which are new.
For Bordeaux, the 2020 vintage promises to be excellent, despite one of the most trying years in recent history. The Covid-19 pandemic posed various challenges during the growing season, harvest and en prime campaign, as new sanitary protocols had to be observed. Although the growing season saw some rain, it was the dry spells that took over, concentrating the grapes and creating a harvest with the potential to produce rich, intense wines . Overall yields were slightly below average, but fruit was generally healthy and of high quality .
