NIKKA - Coffey Gin - 47%
Nikka Whisky Distilling Company is an iconic house located in the heart of Japan, founded by the legendary Masataka Taketsuru, recognized as the true founding father of Japanese whisky. The son of a sake master brewer, Taketsuru studied chemistry at university before refining his expertise by working in several prestigious Scottish distilleries. Upon his return to Japan in 1920 with his Scottish wife Rita, he contributed to the creation of the very first Japanese whisky within what would become Suntory (formerly Kotobukiya Limited). Later, he founded the Yoichi distillery as well as the parent company Nikka, becoming an essential pillar of Japanese distillation. Nikka also owns distilleries specialized in the production of Shochu — a distilled alcohol made from a variety of ingredients such as rice, barley, and sweet potato — as well as facilities dedicated to the production of cider brandy and apple wine. In 2001, Nikka was integrated into the Asahi Breweries group, further enhancing its international reach.
Following the great success of the Coffey Grain and Coffey Malt editions, two new variants, Coffey Gin and Coffey Vodka, were launched in 2017 to enrich this exceptional range.
The Coffey Gin is crafted from a meticulous blend of 11 carefully selected botanicals. This unique recipe highlights 4 rare and flavorful Japanese citrus fruits — Yuzu, Kabosu, Amanatsu, and Shequasar — enhanced by traditional botanicals such as juniper berries, angelica, coriander seeds, as well as lemon and orange peels, with a subtle hint of apple that brings freshness and balance. This exceptional gin perfectly embodies the harmonious marriage between ancient Japanese craftsmanship and aromatic innovation, ideal for premium spirit enthusiasts.
