Paul John is an iconic Indian whisky brand produced by the renowned John Distilleries. Located in Bangalore, India, their Single Malt distillery is situated in the tropical region of Goa. The Paul John Single Malt Whisky was first launched in 2012 in the United Kingdom, before conquering the Indian market with Goa in 2013 and Bangalore in 2015. Initially specialized in blends since 1996, the company began producing Single Malts in 2008 with the goal of entering the premium segment. Master distiller Michael D'Souza distinguished himself by exclusively incorporating natural Indian ingredients into his whiskies, thus giving his Single Malts typical and unique notes, an authentic reflection of their terroir of origin. The tropical climate of Goa, characterized by a monsoon season and high humidity almost all year round, allows for accelerated and expressive whisky maturation, promoting rich and complex aromas.
Paul John whisky is made from a rigorous selection of 6-row Indian malted barley. Some special editions also incorporate peat from Scotland, imported from Islay and Aberdeen, adding a subtle smoky dimension. Distillation is carried out in traditional copper pot stills, ensuring finesse and purity, then the spirit is aged in charred American oak barrels, guaranteeing optimal maturation and a balanced, intense aromatic profile.
Paul John Classic Select Cask benefits from careful aging in first-fill Bourbon barrels for 6 to 7 years, giving it chocolatey, spicy notes and a beautiful richness on the palate.
