Glen Scotia is an iconic distillery located in Campbeltown, on the historic Kintyre peninsula in Scotland. Founded in 1832 under the name Scotia by influential city figures, Mayor James Stewart and Provost John Galbraith, it represents one of the few surviving distilleries from this region once renowned for its whisky industry. In 1919, Glen Scotia distinguished itself as a founding member of the prestigious "West Highland Malt Distilleries," a strategic alliance grouping six Campbeltown distilleries aiming to pool production costs to avoid a major industry crisis. In 1924, the distillery was acquired by Duncan MacCallum, also founder of Glen Nevis. Despite a temporary closure in 1928, it reopened in 1930, but tragedy struck when MacCallum committed suicide that same year after falling victim to a financial scam. The distillery then passed into the hands of Bloch Brothers, who gave it the definitive name "Glen Scotia." Local legend still speaks of MacCallum's ghost, enhancing the mythical character of this establishment. Owned by Bloch Brothers until 1954, Glen Scotia experienced numerous ownership changes and production interruptions, including a closure between 1984 and 1989. Under the impetus of Gibson International, the distillery was revived before being purchased in 1994 by Glen Catrine Bonded Warehouse Ltd, then fully relaunched from 1999. In 2014, it joined the prestigious Loch Lomond group, which made significant investments to develop production, expand facilities, open new maturation warehouses, and create a modern visitor center, thus consolidating Glen Scotia's worldwide reputation.
Victoriana represents a contemporary and powerful interpretation of a Campbeltown Malt Whisky inspired by the Victorian era. This remarkable whisky is aged in a carefully selected range of Bourbon casks of first and second fill, which bring roundness and sweetness. It is then finished for 12 months in a sophisticated blend of Pedro Ximénez casks (30%) offering rich and fruity notes, and intensely charred American oak casks (70%), which provide depth, complexity, and a unique smoky finish.
