The Magnum Series #1 honors the photographer Elliott Erwitt. Born in Paris in 1928 to Russian parents, Erwitt grew up in Milan before emigrating to the United States via France in 1939. His youth in Hollywood introduced him to photography, notably through his work in a commercial darkroom and his studies at Los Angeles City College. In 1949, he undertook a photographic journey in France and Italy with his Rolleiflex camera, capturing unique moments. Serving in the military in 1951, he carried out various photographic missions before joining Magnum Photos in 1953, where he became a recognized freelance photographer known for his sensitivity and sharp eye.
