KOPKE - Porto - Fine White
Kopke is the oldest Port House, founded in 1638 in Portugal, in the heart of the famous Douro wine region. This prestigious house, globally recognized for its exceptional expertise in crafting Port wines, was established by Nicolau Köpke, the general consul of the Hanseatic League, a powerful historic association of merchant cities in Northern Europe. As early as 1640, two years after relocating from Hamburg to Portugal, the Kopke House exported its first bottles to Northern Europe, laying the foundations of a strong export tradition. In 1781, Kopke reached a major milestone by acquiring a farm in the Douro valley, transitioning from a simple wine shipper to a passionate producer, specializing in the meticulous crafting of fortified Port wines, symbols of authenticity and excellence.
The Kopke Fine Port range is the result of a rigorous blend of young Port wines from different harvests, combining various degrees of maturation in stainless steel tanks and wooden barrels, with a minimum aging of 3 years. This method achieves a unique aromatic complexity while preserving the characteristic freshness of young Ports. This varied range offers several distinctive styles: Tawny, Ruby, and White, thus catering to all preferences and tasting occasions, blending tradition and modernity.
The Fine White is made from the emblematic grape varieties of the Douro — Malvasia Fina, Moscatel Galego, Gouveio, Rabigato, among others — hand-harvested with great care, then destemmed and gently crushed. Vinification involves a short maceration followed by fermentation in stainless steel tanks, precisely controlling the desired level of sweetness. The addition of high-quality grape brandy then fortifies the wine to produce a balanced, refreshing final product with beautiful aromatic complexity. This fortified white wine stands out with a residual sugar content of 107 g/L, offering a sweet and indulgent sensation ideal for aperitifs or paired with delicate desserts.
Grape varieties: Traditional Douro grapes, known for their fruity and floral aromas, and their ability to express themselves perfectly in a superior quality fortified white Port wine.
