The Shed Distillery is located on the edge of a picturesque lake in Drumshanbo, in the heart of Ireland. PJ and Denise Rigney, passionate and visionary artisans, along with their expert team of distillers, boldly explore wild grains, traditional Irish flora, and carefully selected exotic plants. The Shed Distillery has a unique set of five copper stills: three dedicated to creating Irish whiskey, two specially designed for the legendary Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin, as well as two copper column stills used for the Irish vodka Sausage Tree Pure. These stills, custom-made by German master Arnold Holstein, embody the technical excellence carefully brought to Drumshanbo.
The exceptional know-how in the production process of Gunpowder Gin begins with a slow and precise distillation, during which 8 noble botanicals are integrated directly into the copper still: authentic juniper berries, delicate meadowsweet, aromatic cardamom, coriander seeds, angelica root, refined iris root, caraway seeds, and star anise. This harmonious blend captures the very essence of the Irish terroir. Then, in an innovative process, 4 additional plants are added in the steam basket: powerful "gunpowder" tea, vibrant Chinese lemon, juicy oriental grapefruit, and exotic kaffir lime, bringing freshness and unique gustatory complexity.
The legendary character featured on the label represents a mythological creature born from the unique fusion between a hare and an American antelope. According to tradition, this enigmatic creature was born during a tumultuous storm, symbolizing the strength and magic emanating from this exceptional gin.
