VELIER - Diamond 15 years - Vintage 1999 - Demerara S - Bottled 2014 - 53.10%
Velier was founded in 1947 by Casimiro Chaix, in the heart of Genoa, Italy. With his partner Arturo Lupi, they created in 1953 a modest classic import business of wines and spirits, distributing notably champagne, grappa, but also tea and cocoa. In 1983, Gian Luca Gargano, then marketing director at Spirit SpA — the largest import company in Italy — joined Velier's capital. From 1985, Velier specialized in importing exceptional spirits, mainly targeting gourmet restaurants and high-end wine bars. A pioneer in 1988, Velier became the first Italian company to import New World wines. From 1992, the company expanded its expertise by carefully selecting casks of old Single Malts as well as rare rums, thus developing its own brand from 1995. In 2001, Velier offered its first exclusive selection of Damoiseau rums. Habitation Velier is an innovative project launched in 2015, the result of Luca Gargano's direct collaboration with the best rum master distillers. Each expression of the rum produced is an original Pure Single that embodies an innovative project and unique characteristics, a true "world first" for each distillery involved, thus strengthening Velier's position among the essential references of exceptional spirits.
This prestigious edition from Demerara Distillers was distilled in 1999 at the famous Diamond distillery in Guyana. Patiently aged for 15 years in a tropical environment offering ideal conditions for its maturation, this rum was bottled in July 2014 with an alcohol content of 53.10%. Only 4 casks gave birth to this rarity, for an exceptional total of 1,137 bottles available, making each bottle a true gem for collectors and discerning enthusiasts.
