Quinta do Noval - Colheita Port 2000
Quinta do Noval is an exceptional Port house founded in 1715, recognized as one of the most prestigious wine estates located in the heart of the Douro Valley, in Portugal. Unlike the majority of Port houses located in Vila Nova de Gaia, Quinta do Noval stands out due to the unique location of its eponymous emblematic vineyard. The vines benefit from an incomparable terroir made up of schist and clay soils offering unparalleled natural drainage, and the omnipresent rock makes viticulture demanding, requiring truly artisanal expertise.
Quinta do Noval owns a majority of emblematic indigenous grape varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Cão, and Sousão. A meticulous replanting of the plots was undertaken in 1994, with each grape variety selected to perfectly match the specifics of the soil, altitude, and exposure, guaranteeing Port wines of remarkable quality regularly praised by international critics.
A true treasure at the heart of Quinta do Noval: an exclusive plot of ungrafted vines, miraculously spared from the devastation of phylloxera in the 19th century, gives this house a rarity and authenticity unmatched among the Douro quintas.
Since 1993, Christian Seely has led the estate with visionary passion, also managing several major European vineyards within the AXA Millésimes group. This prestigious group also owns renowned properties such as Château Pichon-Longueville, Château Pibran, as well as the legendary Disznókő in Hungary, guarantees of quality and viticultural expertise.
The Porto Tawny Colheita 2000 from Quinta do Noval is the result of traditional vinification: the grapes are carefully foot-trodden to extract the must, then macerate for a long time in lagares, authentic stone vats, a symbolic tool of Portuguese winemaking heritage. This exceptional Colheita benefited from an extended aging between 10 and 12 years in oak casks, well beyond the 7 years required by law, giving this wine an extraordinary aromatic complexity, with aromas of dried fruits, caramel, and soft spices, perfect for great enthusiasts and collectors.
Grape varieties: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Cao, Sousão, Tinta Roriz
