The Akkeshi Distillery is located in Hokkaido, in the rural north of Japan, a region renowned for its preserved landscapes and ideal climate for aging spirits. Founded by Keiichi Toita, president and representative director of Kenten Co. Ltd, it embodies Japanese excellence in whisky production. Its history began in 2013 with experiments on raw spirit batches acquired from two historic Japanese distilleries. Construction of the facility started in 2015 in a unique wetland area characterized by a peat layer and soft soil up to 50 meters deep. To ensure the stability of the installations, an innovative Columbus construction technique was adopted, involving removing the unstable soil and replacing it with polystyrene fill. In 2016, experts from Forsyths in Scotland came to install traditional stills, marking the beginning of distillation faithful to ancient Scottish methods. The Akkeshi distillery team is committed to producing exceptional peated whiskies reminiscent of the iconic character of Islay malts. The first Akkeshi Single Malt was launched in 2018, marking a new era for Japanese whisky.
This Kanro Peated Single Malt Akkeshi is the centerpiece of the exclusive "24 Solar Term Series", inspired by the traditional Asian calendar dividing the year into 24 distinct solar seasons, symbolizing harmony between nature and time. This Single Malt, with a complex and peated profile, is also the first to be marketed in a 70cl format, offering a refined and authentic tasting experience.
