"Why are there no whisky distilleries in Sweden?" one of the friends wondered. No one could provide an answer, leaving the question hanging in the air. Indeed, Sweden does not have an ancient tradition in whisky making, yet when these three friends decided to explore the creation of an exceptional Swedish Single Malt whisky, they discovered a real potential: Sweden is home to some of the purest waters in the world, naturally filtered since the glacial period. It is no coincidence that the distillery is built near a rock offering constant access to these crystalline waters. Swedish barley, grown under the long summer days, develops a unique sweetness that has become one of the signatures of Mackmyra whisky. A significant part of the whisky is aged in new Swedish oak, whose slow growth under the harsh climate gives the wood exceptional density, bringing a robust flavor to the whisky, distinct from the character of traditional American oak. This aging gives the whisky a lively spice perfectly balanced by a subtle caramelized sweetness. Today, this group of friends, led by Angela d’Orazio, a recognized master blender, continues this passion for innovation and discovery since 1999, crafting a natural whisky, without additives, and with a strong commitment to sustainable and environmentally respectful production.
Since winter 2013, two limited editions are released each year, embodying the Seasonal series that reveals original finishes perfectly in harmony with the season. Mackmyra Grönt Te draws its inspiration from Angela d’Orazio’s passions, between cultural travels and the creation of unique combinations of flavors and sensations. This Swedish whisky is thus refined in Ex-Oloroso casks subtly scented thanks to a refined blend of Oloroso wine and the finest Japanese green tea leaves: Yame Sencha, Yame Gyokuro, Kaoribo Hojicha, and Yame Matcha Shinobi, which bring unparalleled aromatic complexity.
