"Why are there no whisky distilleries in Sweden?" one of the friends wondered. None could answer, leaving the question hanging in the air. Indeed, Sweden does not have an ancient tradition of whisky production. However, when these three enthusiasts considered creating a Swedish Single Malt whisky, they discovered a true potential: Sweden has some of the purest water in the world, rigorously filtered since the Ice Age. It is no coincidence that the distillery is located near a rock providing constant access to this exceptional crystalline water.
Moreover, Swedish barley benefits from the long summer days during which it develops a unique sweetness, thus forming a cornerstone of the distinctive character of Mackmyra whisky. Much of the aging takes place in new Swedish oak barrels. This oak, grown slowly in the harsh climate, imparts the whisky with flavors more robust and intense than those from traditional American oak. The result is a fiery spice balanced by a sweetness reminiscent of caramelized sugar, an incomparable taste signature.
Today, this group of friends, accompanied by Angela d’Orazio, a renowned master blender, continues to produce this whisky with the same passion for discovery and experimentation that inspired them since 1999. All this is done by favoring a process without additives and minimizing the environmental footprint, ensuring a quality whisky respectful of nature.
Brukswhisky belongs to Mackmyra's prestigious Signature range. This whisky has been aged for 5 years in first-fill 200-liter Bourbon barrels, harmoniously blended with 100-liter Swedish oak barrels, 100-liter Sherry barrels, as well as ex-Bourbon 200-liter barrels, offering a rich and sophisticated aromatic complexity.
