Domaine Laurent Gauthier - Morgon Old Vines 2024
The Domaine Laurent Gauthier is located in Villié-Morgon, in the heart of Beaujolais, in one of the most renowned crus of the appellation: Morgon. Coming from a family of winemakers, Laurent Gauthier has established himself through a demanding artisanal approach, highlighting the typical granitic and schistous terroirs of the area. The vines are planted on soils rich in decomposed rocks and manganese, characteristic elements that give Morgon depth and structure. The estate works with controlled yields to preserve concentration and balance. This philosophy gives birth to precise, sincere wines faithful to the identity of the cru.
The cuvée Morgon Old Vines 2024 comes from old parcels, naturally offering low yields and remarkable concentration. Made exclusively from Gamay, the emblematic grape variety of Beaujolais, it expresses all the typicality of great Morgon wines. The 2024 vintage highlights balanced maturity and beautiful freshness, allowing the terroir to express itself with finesse. Traditional Beaujolais vinification, with adapted maceration and controlled extraction, aims to preserve the fruit while bringing structure and depth. The aging refines the matter without masking the aromatic purity of Gamay.
On tasting, the wine reveals an intense nose of black cherry, ripe raspberry, and violet, accompanied by slightly spicy and mineral notes. The palate is ample and structured, supported by supple yet present tannins, a signature of characterful Morgon wines. The balance between generous fruit and natural freshness gives the wine a beautiful length and a persistent finish. This Morgon Old Vines 2024 will perfectly accompany roasted meats, characterful dishes, or traditional Lyonnaise cuisine. It can be enjoyed young for its vibrant fruit or aged a few years to gain complexity.
